You’re six years old and it's the first day of school. It’s going to be ok, you asked your magic eight ball earlier today and it said Yes. But that doesn’t stop your hands from sweating as they clutch your bright and brand new lunch box with your favorite hero emblazoned across the front. 

You’re ten years old. School is old news at this point, but your small life is only growing and presenting you with new and difficult questions. How do you get gum out of your hair? Why is your best friend spending more time with Erin in the neighboring class than with you? And why is it so important to learn algebra? You have a growing suspicion the magic eight ball may not be the source of truth that you thought it was, but you still ask. Your lunch box is still brightly colored, but the surface is scratched, and one of the hero’s eyes is beginning to rub off.

You’re 25, 38, 52. You don’t get to pick the number when memories knock on your door and demand admittance, but you’ve lived long enough to accept that fact. You wonder again, where that lunch box went. If only you had something like that old magic eight ball to give you an answer.
